Still Life with Mathew Lynn / 1 Day Workshop

Suitable for intermediate - advanced students

Let award winning artist Mathew Lynn guide you through an exploration of still life composition and more broadly ‘objects in space’. This will be an opportunity for you to examine and strengthen your traditional still life practice and skills, or you might like to take this opportunity to experiment and explore how objects, elements and figures important to you inhabit special spaces.

Mathew can help you with traditional drawing and rendering, learning how to ‘see’, and academic tonalism, through to exploring your practice through experimentation, and perceiving your stimulus in less representational ways.

Mathew likes to work one-on-one fairly quickly within the session, setting specific individual exercises and goals where necessary, tuning into and encouraging your personal vision and the way you see the world. He also likes to work with people of all skill levels, and will make you feel comfortable while providing specific challenges for you.

You may use your preferred medium and approach in this workshop. Mathew may recommend initial studies and processes which you can then incorporate into your main work for the day.

Materials List

• Reference materials: these could be objects (for a traditional still life set up), photographs, drawings or works in progress.
• The setup of your preferred medium (oil painters must use an odourless system).
• A sketchbook for quick studies and experiments.
