This class is suitable for both beginners and intermediate students.

This class will develop your observational drawing skills and give you the tools to translate the three-dimensional world around us into a two-dimensional drawing. Each week, drawing activities are introduced to build your drawing skills and develop your knowledge of how artists have creatively used drawing techniques to create masterworks. Intermediate and advanced level students will be provided with increasingly complex activities and provocations to expand and consolidate their skills.

Working directly from props, still life arrangements, and later in the course, the human figure, students will develop familiarity with a range of materials, techniques, and strategies to engage with drawing as a means of creative expression. Materials and methods explored include graphite, coloured pencil, additive and subtractive methods with willow and compressed charcoal, pen and ink, ink and wash, Conté, aux deux crayons and trois crayons methods, and colour soft pastel.

You will be encouraged to develop and explore your unique gestural style. Advanced students will be supported to work on individual projects and bring along studio works in progress for feedback.

Please note in weeks when we work from a life model $10 is required to assist covering life model fees.
