Learn to draw animal and plant specimens using scientific drawing methods and investigate the fascinating intersection of art and science. Using an easy step-by-step approach, students will learn to accurately observe, sketch and render natural subjects in a precise scientific context. We will use a combination of fine ink pens and watercolour paints to represent the unique forms and textures of taxidermy, plant specimens and other natural objects. Animal and plant specimens for drawing will be provided but feel free to bring your own.
No previous experience in drawing required, beginners welcome.
Please keep in mind that each workshop will either focus on Zoological or Botanical subjects.
Material list:
- At least 1 x sheet of heavy-duty smooth A3 watercolour paper.
- Pencil and eraser.
- Water-resistant fine line pen (Artline or Staedtler). (Available from art shops or Officeworks - about $6)
- Watercolour paint set (cheap quality is fine) and a small selection of brushes including mostly fine brushes.
- Please bring along your own specimens if you have something specific you’d like to try and draw.
